Blessing Box Dedication - all Scouts welcome to join!

blessing box Easton PA lehigh valley hunger mission boy scouts of america church

This past spring FPCE’s Mission Team learned that the Lehigh Valley Business Group, working with a local Eagle Scout, was offering to install Blessing Boxes throughout the Lehigh Valley. Several had already been constructed, free of charge, in Easton. These boxes are ‘mini’ food pantries where families or individuals struggling to have enough to eat can find non-perishable foods right in their neighborhood. Session approved its installation, and the Blessing Box was added to our garden.

We will be dedicating our new Blessing Box on Sunday, September 19 at the end of the worship service. Peg Opthof has agreed to be the Blessing Box Coordinator for 2021 and a sign up sheet will be available on September 19 to sign up to stock the Blessing Box!

Mason Kessler, Eagle Scout Candidate, made and installed our Blessing Box in the front garden. It would be wonderful if Scouts from our congregation would wear their uniform and be part of the dedication! Eagle Scouts that have aged out of scouting and Leaders are invited and encouraged to wear their uniform and help celebrate Mason’s accomplishment.

Re-Set • Re-Connect • Re-New

As we launch into a new program year, God calls us to re-affirm our commitment to being the church. The church is the body of Christ in this world—which means we are called to be the hands that show God’s love, the feet that march to the Spirit’s call for justice, the voice that sings out in thanksgiving to the goodness and grace of our Creator.

Following worship, we will dedicate our new Blessing Box in the front garden, installed by local Eagle Scout Mason Kessler. The Blessing Box is a mini food pantry where families or individuals struggling to have enough to eat can find non-perishable food.

ARK Luncheon

  • First Presbyterian Church of Easton (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

First Presbyterian Church has been asked to provide a lunch for the ARK Soup Kitchen. This year, we will host Saturday, August 21, and the meal will be distributed at the Episcopal Church on Third Street at 12pm. The menu has changed because of COVID-19; instead of serving 80-90 plated dinners, we will be making bagged meals for 40+ recipients. The Mission Team is asking for donations to fill the bags. There will be a donation box at the church for non-perishable items, such as fruit cups, sippy drinks, chips, pretzels, peanut butter/cheese crackers, candy bars, etc.  All must be individual serving sized for the lunch bags. Perishable items like bread, meat, cheese, etc. will be purchased the week of the luncheon. Monetary donations are welcome. The bags will then be assembled by the Mission Team and dropped off at the Episcopal Church.  FYI: ARK is able to provide lunches year-round because of the generosity of area churches, schools, and other local venues.

Virtual Annual Congregational Meeting

  • First Presbyterian Church of Easton (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS
image.jpg

The purpose of the meeting is to receive the 2020 annual report and budget, as well as approve the pastor’s terms of call. The ZOOM link, telephone number, meeting ID, and password will not be shared publicly in the interest of keeping the meeting secure. These ZOOM details will be delivered to members by email on January 15th. Annual reports will also be emailed at that time. See instructions for how to use ZOOM below.

Please contact our church office to request a hard copy and if you would like to be given the meeting information. Hard copies can be picked up from our office on Tuesday, January 19 between 10am and 2pm. Once you receive your annual reports, it would be extremely helpful if you submitted your questions in advance. You can send questions to Pastor Stefanie, who will moderate most of the meeting, at revstefaniefpce@gmail.com. Questions for the pastor’s terms of call can be sent to our clerk of Session, Art Charlton at char4art@rcn.com .

ZOOM MEETING INSTRUCTIONS

Zoom is free for you to use for this meeting. You do not need to sign up for an account, but you will need to allow the Zoom application to run on your device. (Telephone access is available but is not toll-free; your phone carrier rates will apply.) The Zoom application also works on a tablet or smart phone. Computer access is best.

An invitation with the link to access the meeting will be emailed to members directly on 1/15/2021. Prior to the meeting, it is recommended that you test your computer system, set up the Zoom application, and check your video and audio connections. You may use the link in advance to do so; however, no other participants will be gathering until the stated meeting date/time. (It is not required that you turn on your video camera; you may leave it turned off if you prefer.) We will use the “waiting room” feature, which allows the meeting moderator to screen meeting attendees. For this reason, we ask that your displayed name be one we can recognize.

When the meeting starts, participants will be muted and remain so for the duration of the meeting except for brief moments to allow for questions and voice votes. This is a measure to optimize the audio quality by reducing ambient noise and echo from all attendees. Additional voting, if needed, may be handled by both verbal and nonverbal feedback and polling.

21-Day Race Equity Challenge begins!

21DayChallenge_banner_IG_banner.jpg

We are joining many other Presbyterian congregations across our nation in a 21-Day Race Equity challenge adapted from original work by Dr. Eddie Moores’ “21 Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge.” 21 days is the time it takes to build or break a habit. This is a starting place for our church to build a base of shared understanding. There will be 4 categories to choose from each day: Watch, Listen, Read, and Notice.

Visit our Micah 6 Initiative page for more information.
