“…For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing,
I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.'”
Matthew 25: 35 – 36

Who is a Deacon?

The ministry of Deacons as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment should be chosen for this ministry.

What does a Deacon do?

While Deacons hold a variety of responsibilities at any given church, at First Presbyterian Church of Easton, our Deacons host our weekly Fellowship hour along with additional meals and events throughout the year; delivery chancel flowers to the sick and home-centered; visit the sick and home-centered; and assist in serving home communion.

The Deacons are now serving Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffee during the coffee hour! For each pound of fairly traded coffee Presbyterians purchase through the Coffee Project, 15 cents per pound goes to the PCUSA’s Small Farmer Fund. The total Small Farmer Fund amounted to $11,819.30 in 2016 alone. For more information, visit http://equalexchange.coop/pcusa.
